Hypnotherapy
What is Hypnotherapy?
Understanding Clinical Hypnotherapy: A Gentle, Evidence-Based Approach
Hypnotherapy is a collaborative, therapeutic process that uses guided relaxation, focused attention, and positive suggestion to help you access your subconscious mind and create meaningful, lasting change.
Contrary to popular myths, clinical hypnotherapy is not about mind control or entertainment. It’s a recognised, evidence-based approach that works alongside your conscious awareness to gently reframe unhelpful thought patterns, release stored tension, and strengthen your natural capacity for resilience.
In the UK, hypnotherapy is supported by NHS clinical guidelines for several conditions and is regulated to ensure safe, ethical practice.
- Hypnotherapy targets subconscious patterns; counselling explores conscious thoughts and feelings.
- Hypnotherapist guides trance states; counsellor facilitates client-led verbal therapeutic exploration.
- Hypnotherapy enables rapid change for specific issues; counselling supports long-term growth.
- Hypnotherapy trains in suggestion; counselling accredits in relational therapeutic modalities.

How We Can Work Together
Flexible Hypnotherapy Sessions: Face-to-Face in Lincoln or Online Across Lincolnshire
Accessibility is central to effective therapy. I offer two flexible formats for Hypnotherapy with Fiona Jane Therapy:
- Face-to-face in Lincoln: Sessions take place in a quiet, accessible clinic in central Lincoln, with nearby parking and step-free entry. The environment is designed to help you settle quickly, with comfortable seating, calming lighting, and complete confidentiality.
- Online hypnotherapy across Lincolnshire & beyond: If travelling isn’t convenient, I offer secure, HIPAA/GDPR-compliant video sessions from anywhere in Lincolnshire or the UK. You’ll need a quiet space, headphones, and a reliable internet connection. Online hypnotherapy is just as effective as in-person work and often fits more easily into busy schedules.
“Healing begins when the mind is given permission to rewire what it has outgrown.”
What Does Hypnotherapy Help With?
How Hypnotherapy Creates Lasting Change in the Mind and Body
Hypnotherapy works by gently engaging the brain’s natural ability to shift into a relaxed, focused state of awareness. In this state, the critical, analytical mind softens, allowing positive suggestions and new perspectives to integrate more deeply into the subconscious.
It supports neuroplasticity by helping to interrupt entrenched habit loops, calm an overactive nervous system, and strengthen internal resources.
Rather than suppressing symptoms, it works collaboratively with your conscious intentions to create sustainable behavioural and emotional shifts.
Common Issues Hypnotherapy Can Help Address
- Anxiety, stress & overwhelm
- Phobias & specific fears (e.g. flying, needles, social situations)
- Sleep disturbances & insomnia
- IBS & stress-related digestive discomfort
- Chronic pain, tension & headache management
- Smoking cessation & habit change
- Confidence, self-esteem & performance anxiety
- Grief, loss & emotional regulation
Please note: Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy and should not replace medical diagnosis or treatment prescribed by your GP or specialist.
“You already hold the capacity for change; hypnotherapy simply helps you remember how to access it.”
Is Hypnotherapy right for you?
Is Hypnotherapy the Right Step for You?
- Are motivated to make a positive change
- Are open to guided relaxation and self-reflection
- Are willing to engage with simple practices between sessions
- Prefer a talking therapy that also addresses subconscious patterns
It may not be suitable if you experience untreated psychosis, severe dissociative disorders, or certain neurological conditions (e.g. unmanaged epilepsy). In these cases, I always recommend consulting your GP or mental health professional first. Above all, hypnotherapy requires your active participation and readiness to explore change at a pace that feels safe and sustainable.
